Naming Survey for Evanston Middle School*

The Calgary Board of Education is currently building a middle school in the community of Evanston. A school name recommendation committee has been set up to recommend names to the Board of Trustees. The committee has shortlisted three possible names and wants your input before making a recommendation to the Board.

Please complete the school naming survey online by midnight on Thursday, June 5. A decision on the new school’s name will be made soon.

Community Litter Clean-up on Sunday, June 08, 10am

Environment Week is the first week of June and we are set to launch our community litter clean-up program! It is the first of an ongoing initiative to make sure we keep Evanston clean and tidy year-round.

Contact [email protected] for information and to sign up. The more people we have, the better (and faster) we can beautify Evanston!

For the volunteers on the day, we will have a draw for prizes and a free ECCA Membership!

Garden Planting on Saturday, May 17, 10am

We are ready to plant our Community Garden at our Community Park (115 Evanston Drive)! See the photo below for details and how you can RVSP to help!

In less than 60 days, the ECCA Garden Committee secured $7,050 in grant funding, acquired stumps, developed a plan for water collection and have built gutters, have the wood supports for the water tanks in place (and obtained a water tank), created a plan for soil/compost/seeds and the 12 garden boxes are built and on-site.

Our seeds are donated by Bluegrass in Balzac. The boxes were built by Evanston-based Topnotch Fence and Deck. As most of you know, the project this year is dedicated to the Grow A Row initiative from the Calgary Food Bank. We will be planting potatoes, carrots, beets, onions and zucchini.

We thank the Friends of the Federation of Calgary Communities (the charity) and the Calgary Foundation for their support and the grant.
