COMMUNITY GUIDELINES: This is a community page designed for neighbors to come together. We welcome friendly and open conversation, however we reserve the right to remove posts which are inappropriate, offensive or are promoting business interests. We encourage residents to share their input and feedback on community issues, but please be aware that often the most effective course of action is to contact the City of Calgary directly at 311. The comments we receive here on Facebook and in-person at our monthly meetings will help guide us in sharing what’s important to the residents of Evanston-Creekside. ECCA board members are volunteers and may not be able to respond immediately to all inquiries. We keep a close eye on our page and will do our best to answer to the best of our knowledge.

Be safe. Leave space.

As kids are travelling to school, people driving can expect to see more people cycling on the road. This is a great opportunity to take a few minutes to become familiar with how to share the road safely.

➡️When driving 60km/h or slower, you are required to leave a minimum of one metre when passing someone cycling.
➡️When driving faster than 60km/h the safe passing distance increases to 1.5 metres.

You may cross a single solid line to complete a pass if it’s safe to do so. If you can’t pass safely with the minimum amount of space, slow down and wait for an appropriate opportunity.

When cycling, ride as close to the curb as possible, recognizing that you may need to use the full travel lane to make a turn, and to avoid debris and parked cars.

Starting October 1, if you have extra garbage that won’t fit in your black cart, you’ll need to bag it, tag it & place it out for collection:
1️⃣ Fill your black cart first.
2️⃣ Purchase garbage tags ($3 each) from a participating convenience or grocery store or online.
3️⃣ Put extra garbage in a bag and wrap the tag around the knot at the top of the bag.
4️⃣ Place the extra bag two feet from your black cart on collection day for pickup.

The majority of households do not set out extra garbage bags on a regular basis. The garbage tag program is the first step towards greater fairness in our garbage fees. Households that properly sort waste into the blue and green carts will be less likely to need tags for extra garbage.

We encourage you to look at what you’re buying and throwing away to find ways to reduce waste. Sorting materials correctly helps maximize the use of your blue, green and black carts and diverts material from the landfill.

Visit calgary.ca/garbagetag for more information & to purchase tags online or visit a local Co-op or Circle K store.
